Description of the problem	Takata recall on february 26, 2018, i received a recall letter from mercedes benz usa ("mercedes") with respect to a defect on the "takata" airbags, noting that "a passenger-side inflation explosion during deployment could result in sharp metal fragments striking the front passenger or other occupants, possibly causing injury or death." the letter also notes that replacement parts are not yet available for my vehicle. I called mercedes to better understand why, if i am driving a car that is deemed to be unsafe and per the above, could cause injury or death, a replacement part is not available. I was told that mercedes sent the letter with the verbiage as it appeared from takata, that many other manufacturers were impacted by this recall, and that mercedes was "low on the list" for replacements. I do not understand how or why i should be expected to continue to drive a car with my family in it that is deemed to be unsafe. I further do not understand why mercedes is not taking any action to rectify this situation. Mercedes determined that both they and you (as the regulator) determined that the car is in fact safe, yet the letter i was provided states otherwise. Please explain how this is possible.
